In
the past few years, Keiko Hasegawa, who has made a name for
herself as a Japanese potter in England perhaps more successfully
than any other, has gone through a period of self searching
and criticism. This enabled her to develop her own style,
whilst working in this country and give the future of ceramic
art a new definition.
Keiko
Hasegawa constantly experiments and explores different materials
and techniques from the rough textural qualities of raku to
the refinement of porcelain and more recently the use of metallic
gold over a textured semi-matt black glaze. Few studio ceramists
have successfully used on-glaze gold, but with Hasegawa's sensibility
the results are spectacular.
Keiko
is now admired and collected in Japan, England and many other
European countries. Her work is to be found in many prestigious
galleries, including the British and the Victoria and Albert
Museums.
